Occupational Health and Safety Consultants
Hi, I'm Steve Sleeper for AMI Environmental where we make environmental problems go away. I'm here to today with Doug Marshall who's an industrial hygienist with AMI Environmental. An application for an industrial hygienist would be occupational health and safety which gets into a whole other realm, doesn't it Doug?
[Steve] As Ben Franklin said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
[Doug] Exactly. We identify ergonomic hazards or potentially unhealthy work practices.
[Steve] Ergonomics is not just sitting at a desk and typing. It can be on a construction site or in a factory - correct?
[Doug] Exactly. Wherever we have people lifting, standing, stretching or reaching we have ergonomics and the potential for muscular and skeletal disorders.
[Steve] How does this all play into OSHA compliance?
[Doug] The OSHA general duty clause requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards. Ergonomics is a recognized hazard. If I have an employee that is repetitively doing a task, then I might be found in violation of the general duty clause. But more importantly, we help our clients look at their bottom line and productivity. Where can they save money from decreasing worker compensation claims? What are the overall processes to reduce employee injury?
[Steve] Thanks Doug. For a free occupational health and safety consultation, go to IndustrialHygieneAMI.com or call 402-397-5001 and ask for Doug Marshall.Occupational Health and Safety Consultants Leave a Reply |
